On Tuesday in Abuja, the Governorship Election case Tribunal for Edo reserved its decision in the Action Alliance’s (AA) case challenging the state’s governorship election results from September 21, 2024.
The three-member panel, presided over by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, stated that the parties and attorneys would be informed of the decision date. Counsels accepted their written speeches during Tuesday’s reopened hearing of the case, according to NAN.
Mr. Adewale Adebayo, the petitioner’s attorney, asked the court to approve his requests and uphold all of the arguments and representations made on his client’s behalf. Counsels for the APC, Mr. Anthony Umeri, Gov. Monday Okpebholo, Ms. Linda Chuba-Ikpeazu, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mr. Dike Udenna, all asked the court to reject the petition.
In this case, the National Chairman of the party, Mr. Adekunle Omoaje, filed a solo petition on behalf of AA, telling the tribunal that his petition was based on the fact that INEC failed to recognize the party’s candidate for the Edo governorship election, even though he obtained a judgment to that effect.
They asked the court to dismiss the petition on the grounds that it was an abuse of court process and that it lacked merit. NAN reports that normally, petitions are filed jointly by the parties and their candidates, but in this instance, the party’s National Chairman, Mr. Adekunle.
Omoaje maintained that his petition was as a result of the exclusion of his candidate and urged the tribunal to recognise him as the national chairman of AA.
