Born into the poor family of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Egho from Ebelle in Edo State, Nigeria, Ehigiator Iyobor Egho-Promise had financial and academic challenges during his early education and struggled to earn a degree with little help from his uncles and his late, impoverished parents.
Due to some learning difficulties during his secondary school education, he failed the West African School Certificate Examination administered by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and received no credit at his first sitting. Ehigiator was crowned with a disgraceful scholarship academic performance, but he did not let this deter him; instead, he used it as motivation to study harder. Following his fourth attempt at the WAEC and General Certificate of Education (GCE), he was able to gain admission to the University of Benin (UNIBEN) for a Diploma in Data Processing and a B.Sc. in Computer Science, where he faced difficult financial support from his parents.
He taught practical tutorial classes to some of his classmates and diploma students during his undergraduate studies at a reasonable cost to help him get through the difficult financial times. For a small price, he also offered advice and assistance to his elders in their last year. Nevertheless, the young Ehigiator turned to the commercial motorbike industry as a means of overcoming his financial hardships while attending the University of Benin in Nigeria. He was able to resolve his initial financial issues thanks to the money that came from that venture. He created a unique computer unit as his senior project at the University of Benin, which is proof of his diligence and creative spirit. The Nigerian Observer newspaper reported his invention on The 14th March 1999 entitled “A young Nigerian graduate invents a special computer unit”.
Among the software he developed was Digitalized Telecom Network for detecting and mitigating anomalies, reducing network downtime, improving efficiency, reducing cost, and increasing revenues at mobile cell sites. Also, he has written telecom switch operations and maintenance manuals to increase productivity.
After his University Education, Ehigiator has not looked back. Ehigiator Iyobor Egho-Promise has over 20 years of experience in various sectors which span across banking, telecom, oil & gas sectors, and more than 10 years of teaching experience in further and higher education.
