One hundred Edo State students who are in need of financial assistance have been given scholarships by Edo State University Uzairue to continue their education there.
While other scholarships merely cover the tuition without accommodations, the complete scholarship offer covers both.
The scholarship award is for the bright students and underprivileged in Edo State, according to Prof. Dawood Egbefo, the acting vice chancellor of the university, who presented the letters of award to the successful candidates.
“These scholarships are designed to support students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance and at the same time may face financial challenges in pursuing their education,” Egbefo said.
According to the acting VC, the scholarship award was created by the institution’s founders to help talented but impoverished students live better lives.
In addition to congratulating the recipients for their diligence, commitment, and academic success, he encouraged them to keep up their good work and suggested that they put in a lot of effort to get the honor. However, he issued a warning against any misbehavior on the part of the students, stating that the scholarship would be revoked for any who were found to be lacking.
The registrar, Mr. Habib Ekhalefo, had earlier in his welcome address thanked the Edo State government and the university’s founders for their investments in the education of disadvantaged children. He urged the recipients to keep up their diligent efforts in pursuit of excellence.
Ekhalefo noted that to qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be indigenes of Edo State and demonstrate intelligence and a screening process was conducted to select the best candidates for this first batch.
He also emphasized that the scholarship programme is ongoing and urged indigenes to encourage their children to apply and prepare for a better future.
Some of the beneficiaries in their response said they were delighted to benefit from the gesture. They said the scholarship would go a long way to support them in their educational pursuit.
