A total of 1,528 students from Edo University Iyamoh in Edo State swore the matriculation oath, promising to abstain from all social vices on campus.
At the 10th matriculation ceremony, which took place at the Aliko Dangote Auditorium in Iyamoh, Prof. Dawood Egbefo, the institution’s acting vice-chancellor, issued the warning.
According to Prof. Egbefo, the freshmen were admitted via transfer from other colleges, direct entry, and UTME.
“Today, we celebrate the matriculation of 1,528 candidates (UTME, Direct Entry, and Transfer) who have met the criteria for admission and successfully completed the 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).”
“As you join the university as the 10th batch of matriculating students, I encourage you to uphold the university’s regulations and contribute positively to the Edo University vision community,” Egbefo said.
He exhorted them to use the institution’s state-of-the-art ICT facilities and resources to the fullest and to approach their academic path with unshakable determination. As he congratulated the recently accepted students, the acting VC stated that social vices are not tolerated at the university and recommended the students avoid any vices that could hinder their academic success.
“Here, we place a high premium on discipline and adherence to the academic calendar,” Egbefo added.
Earlier, Prof. Omare Celia Otote urged newly admitted students to maintain discipline and resilience in their studies to achieve their academic goals.
“Excellence is a journey and not a destination. So, you have to be focused, ask questions, and be self-disciplined,” Otote said.
