Team Edo has jumped ahead with more medals as the tournament gets underway in the first-ever Niger Delta Sports Festival in Uyo. On Friday, April 4, 2025, they took home eight gold, thirteen silver, and six bronze, for a total of 27 medals.
Athletics leads the heartbeat state’s medal harvest with three gold, four silver, and two bronze. Aquatic Association came in second with two gold, five silver, and two bronze.
The Para Powerlifting athletes won the first gold and silver for the state on Thursday before adding another gold on Friday, demonstrating the exceptional talent of Team Edo at the Niger Delta Games.
Edo has one gold, two silvers, and one bronze in Para Athletics, and chess with one silver and one bronze. On Friday, team Edo won a gold medal thanks to Nicholas Ojomah’s heroic performance in the 72kg parapowerlifting division.
In addition, Team Edo took home gold in the men’s discus event, giving them a total of 27 medals on Friday night—eight gold, thirteen silver, and six bronze.
Meanwhile, in the 90-minute Women’s Tennis Quarterfinals at the Dakkada Skill Acquisition Center, Lorelay Holzendorff of Edo State defeated Olaniyan Adesewa of Ondo State in two tiebreaks, 5-4(2), 5-4(5). In the semi-final, she will play Akwa Ibom Etoro Bassey.
