Ten students who were kidnapped by gunmen suspected of kidnapping them in the state have been freed by Edo State Police Command operations.
A gunfight with the police during the rescue effort resulted in the death of one of the kidnappers, while others managed to flee with injuries.
On April 16, 2025, the students were abducted while traveling to Babcock University for the Annual GYC Africa Conference. A police officer was hurt during the operation, according to CDP Moses Yamu, the command spokesperson who verified the rescue.
He claimed that Monday Agbonika, the state commissioner of police, sent tactical teams into the bushes with vigilantes and hunters after learning of the kidnapping in order to perhaps rescue the victims and apprehend the suspects.
During the operation, he added, the security force and the kidnappers engaged in a gunfight, and one of the kidnappers was neutralized while the others fled with bullet wounds.
“The operatives were cautious to avoid collateral damage as the kidnappers used the victims as human shields,” he added
