The Edo State Commissioner for Social Development and Gender Issues, Hon. (Barr.) Marie Olabisi Idaomi, made the disclosures while leading a delegation to visit the baby at the Modic Medical Centre in Benin City.
Along with her 10-year-old stepsister, who was allegedly regularly violated by her 54-year-old stepfather, the Edo State Government, via its Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues, has paid a visit to a one-year-old infant who is supposedly suffering from extreme malnutrition, or marasmus.
According to witnesses, the children’s mother passed away soon after giving birth, leaving the defenseless kids in the care of their father and stepfather, who is presently being held by the police as the main suspect in the horrible crime of defilement.
The Ministry’s Commissioner advised the physician to give the baby the right treatment to ensure its development and reassured the hospital administration that the State Government would pay for the infant’s medical expenses. In order to follow up on the case, she also went to the Edo State Police Command Headquarters, where she was welcomed by Pricilla Ndudi, the officer in charge of gender, and Angela Okaro, the assistant commissioner of police (ACP).
Hon. Idaomi expressed her commitment to addressing the limitations faced by the Police Department and assured them that she would convey their concerns of logistics to the State Governor. “This is no longer business as usual. I will do everything within my power to ensure that the vulnerable are protected and justice is delivered,” she stated.
Hon. Idaomi’s action demonstrates her dedication to protecting the vulnerable. Her commitments to protecting the rights and dignity of individuals is a beacon of hope for a safer and a more just Edo State.
