The council members of Edo State’s Etsako East Local Government Area have denied reports that their chairperson, Hon. Benedicta Attoh, is the target of an impeachment conspiracy.
The ten council members, who were led by the House’s leader, Hon. Solomon Oghuma, vowed that no amount of coercion or temptation would cause them to defect from their chairman, whom they characterized as a kind and considerate leader who put the needs of people first.
The council members took turns speaking during a solidarity visit to Chairman Attoh’s home in Okpekpe, expressing their steadfast support and complimenting her leadership. “We want our Chairman to be reinstated so she can continue to serve humanity,” they said.
Assuring Chairman Attoh of their unwavering allegiance and support, the council members cautioned against stifling democracy in the state.
Through her human welfare packages and fervent support for humanity, they characterized her as a mother, a successful chairman, and a role model who has significantly improved the lives of council members and the public. In her reaction, Chairman Attoh expressed gratitude to the council members and PDP leaders for their unity. She highlighted the cordial working relationship among the council members, supervisors, public workers, and other members of the Etsako East Local Government Council, emphasizing that a leader is only as powerful as their followers.
“The Governor of Edo State is our father, and the father of everyone in the state, regardless of political affiliation. I have never offended him or done anything wrong. As a father of the State we can only appeal to him to allow us continue our service to the masses. We are ready to work with him to achieve his goals and support him as Chairmen. There is indeed no need to cause tension and widen disunity across the State.
“Everyone knows him to be a peaceful person and we have no doubt that he will have a second thought and reinstate the unlawfully suspended Chairmen. God is the only one that has final power and we all look up to the same God for our daily help” she said.
