In Edo state’s Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, hundreds of homes have had their roofs blown off by a rainfall.

According to reports, the rainstorm also caused structures in Ojirami, Oja, Dagbala, Ososo, Akuku, and Ate to collapse. This was revealed on Monday in a motion under matters of urgent public interest by Prince Yekini Idaiye, the member of the Edo State House of Assembly who represents Akoko-Edo 1.

“The incident occurred on March 3, 2025, and in its wake, wreaked havoc on many houses,” Idiaye told lawmakers. The lawmaker urged his colleagues to join him in urging the appropriate authorities and kindhearted people to promptly offer palliative care for the impacted populations.

The precipitation also caused chaos in several areas inside their constituencies, according to Mr. Eric Okaka, the minority leader and representative for Owan East, and Mr. Charity Aiguobarueghian, the majority leader and representative for Ovia North East 1.

Hon. Kingsley Ugabi, the representative for Etsako East, expressed sympathy for the impacted people and urged local government councils to promote tree planting within their jurisdictions in order to lessen the threat posed by rainstorms.

Mr. Blessing Agbebaku, the speaker, showed sympathy for the victims. He emphasized that in order to lessen the impact of rainy disasters, citizens should always plant trees in their homes.

The Assembly afterwards passed a resolution calling on the National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other important authorities to as a matter of urgency assist victims of recent rainstorm disasters in the state.
