By giving a ₦5 million check to Uyi Tina, a survivor of domestic abuse, the Edo State Government has shown its dedication to ending violence and helping its victims.
The presentation was given to the recipient at Government House in Benin City by Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady. The Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Joy Irenose Ihensekhien, represented Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Barr. Marie Bisi Idaomi, who attended the brief occasion.
While supporting Uyi, Mrs. Anani brought up the biblical tale of Job, who lost everything before regaining it all. She added, “When there is life, there is hope. We are grateful that life was not taken from you. I know that the law will take its course.”
“You are a daughter of our State, and what affects you affects us. I want to tell you that we are here for you. We may not have everything to give you, but the support we have, we will give to you. The Governor sends his best regards. He said we should tell you that he wishes you a speedy recovery. He said we should tell you not to give up”.
Upon receipt of the State Government’s gesture, Uyi appreciated the First Lady and the Government of Edo State, saying, “Thank you so much ma, God bless you ma, God bless Governor Okpebholo”.
Remember how Lady Uyi Tina’s estranged husband, Osaro Awughan, burned her apartment on fire on December 31, 2024, after she returned from Europe? She lost what she had accumulated over the years as a result of the tragedy, which impacted her health and resulted in her hospitalization.
