BENIN CITY — Sir (Dr.) Lucky Eseigbe, the Managing Director of the Edo State Public Building and Maintenance Agency, has confirmed that the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo will not allow fraud or redundancy in the civil service.
Eseigbe stressed during an interactive session with the agency’s artisans that the government would not use taxpayer funds to pay salaries for unproductive staff. He denounced the practice of promoting contractors and consultants over state-employed workers, calling it a waste of public funds.
“It is wasteful for the government to pay workers who are not meaningfully engaged,” Eseigbe stated.
“Every staff member, in their chosen craft, must be productive and deliver on assigned tasks. Governor Okpebholo’s administration is committed to ensuring that everyone earns their wages through meaningful work.”
Eseigbe drew on biblical and ethical principles, asserting that it is morally wrong to reap where one has not sown.
“This administration will engage every worker productively and ensure that no one is paid for doing nothing,” he said.
However, he assured staff that their concerns would be addressed. “We will carefully review the challenges raised and work towards providing practical solutions,” he added.
The agency’s craftspeople, who do anything from plumbing and electrical work to gardening and tailoring, said they were willing to put in a lot of effort.
However, they emphasized a number of difficulties, such as the effect of contemporary technology developments that have made many of their classic instruments outdated. The craftspeople urged the government to set up training courses to improve their abilities and give them access to contemporary tools that would improve their output.
“We are eager to contribute to the success of the agency, but we need support to stay relevant in today’s industry standards,” one of the artisans stated.
The interactive session ended with a renewed commitment from the management and artisans to work collaboratively in building a more efficient and productive workforce for Edo State
