Edo Today reports that the Edo State Government has announced the immediate suspension of all consultancy services and related financial transactions within its public service. This directive was approved by Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo as part of efforts to streamline operations and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
In an official statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, all financial dealings with affected consultants and service providers are to cease immediately. This suspension will remain in effect pending the submission of a comprehensive report by the Review Committee established by the Governor.
“All Accounting Officers and Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are hereby directed to adhere strictly to this directive,” the statement emphasized.
Government Special Announcement
The Edo State Government has also addressed the illegal activities of unlicensed agents collecting revenue across the state. This practice has persisted despite prior warnings and the existing suspension of non-commissioned revenue collectors.
Effective immediately:
- Authorized Revenue Collectors Only:
Only statutory and licensed officials are permitted to collect revenue on behalf of the government, particularly in motor parks and other areas of commercial activity. - Reporting Unlicensed Agents:
The public is urged to report any unlicensed agents or touts to the police. - Legal Action Against Violators:
The government will arrest and prosecute individuals involved in unauthorized revenue collection, including their sponsors and collaborators.
Umar Musa Ikhilor, the Secretary to the State Government, reiterated the administration’s firm stance on protecting the lives and property of Edo State residents. “We will not tolerate any actions that undermine the rule of law or the integrity of our revenue collection system,” he stated.
Residents are encouraged to support the government’s efforts by cooperating with licensed officials and reporting illegal activities promptly.
