Nine Edo athletes who participated in the recently concluded ICC U-19 Women’s World Cup in Malaysia were recognized and celebrated by Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission.
He commended the team’s dedication and assured them of continued government support.
Enabulele praised the athletes, the Edo Cricket Association, and the President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, Hon. Uyi Akpata, for their outstanding contributions to the sport, calling them distinguished ambassadors who have brought honor to the state and deserving of government recognition.
The chairman of the Edo Sports Commission gave the team a one million naira cash prize as a thank you for their hard work. In order to improve performance, he also promised more assistance for cricket’s growth in the state and instructed the association to provide information about their requirements, including an update of training facilities.
Together with their coach, Theophilus Adolphus Ibodeme, the renowned athletes include team captain Lucky Piety Ebosetale, vice-captain Agboya Peculiar, Victory Igbinedion, Peace Usen-Adekunle, Adeshola Chukwuonye Christabel, Eguakun Omosigbo, Ogudai Ehimen Beauty, and Akhigbe Anointed. Coach Ibodeme and Captain Ebosetale spoke on behalf of the squad and thanked Hon. Enabulele and the Edo Sports Commission for their kind reception and assistance.
Hon. Enabulele was accompanied at the event by Acting Permanent Secretary Mrs. A.P. Efe-Amenze, Executive Director of Sports Development and Operations Mrs. Sabina Chikere, Coach Baldwin Bazuaye (MON), and other board members.
