Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, has pledged to upgrade educational facilities, hire more skilled educators, build strong infrastructure, provide a safe learning environment, and improve school conditions throughout the state.
During his inspection of the ongoing renovations at a few schools in the Edo Central Senatorial District yesterday, Okpebholo provided the reassurance. When he visited these schools in January 2025, they were in extremely poor condition.
The Edo governor had previously proclaimed a state of emergency in the education sector and had since taken strong measures by implementing people-focused programs and policies. He claimed to be trying to alter the perception of the education industry.
Many public schools have already been transformed by the Okpebholo-led administration’s infrastructure development; many that the Godwin Obaseki-led administration had abandoned now have new buildings, such as secure classrooms and perimeter fences, to protect schoolchildren.
According to Okpebholo, his administration has put policies in place to guarantee that Edo’s public schools can compete favorably with private ones in terms of instruction, high-quality facilities, sound infrastructure, a safe and comfortable environment, and reasonable tuition.
In order to guarantee that schoolchildren receive a high-quality education, the governor of Edo said his administration had started building and renovating schools throughout the state’s three senatorial districts and intended to hire more trained teachers.
He said, “School renovations are ongoing across the three senatorial districts of Edo State. After this, more qualified teachers will be employed to ensure our children get a quality education.”
“As a government, we are working to ensure we restore quality in our education system and ensure it is affordable.”
“Our goal as a government is to see every Edo child attend a public school and get the quality education that will woo more people to embrace public schools.”
Additionally, Okpebholo said his administration was trying to make sure Edo’s educational system could reach international standards.
