Edo Gov Suspends Special Adviser Felix Isere Over Unauthorized Fundraising
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has suspended his Special Adviser on Oil and Gas, Felix Isere, over allegations of unauthorized fundraising for the upcoming Oil and Gas Summit scheduled to hold in the state.
The suspension, which was officially announced on Tuesday, comes amid growing concerns about transparency and accountability in the planning of the event. In response to the development, Governor Okpebholo has also directed that the summit, initially slated to commence on August 7, be put on hold until further notice.
A statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Ikhilor, confirmed the suspension and further ordered Mr. Isere to refund all funds collected from donors about the summit.
“Given the foregoing, the proposed summit is hereby suspended, and Felix Isere has been ordered to refund all monies collected to the various donors,” the statement read.
The state government also issued a stern warning to potential donors, urging them to cease all dealings with the suspended adviser.
“Prospective donors are hereby advised to stop all dealings with the suspended appointee,” it added.
The development has stirred political interest, as stakeholders await the government’s next steps regarding the oil and gas sector in Edo State. This marks a strong stance by Governor Okpebholo on integrity within his administration.
