Edo 2024 : Olumide Akpata Did Not Step Down for Asue Ighodalo

A deceptive memo circulating on social media has falsely claimed that Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Edo State, has stepped down in favor of Asue Ighodalo. Akpata has vehemently denied these rumors, emphasizing that they are entirely untrue and intended to mislead the public.

In a statement, Akpata asserted, “This information is completely false. I remain fully committed to our campaign and the vision we have for a better Edo.” His response comes at a critical moment, just hours before the election, underscoring the importance of truth and transparency in the political process.

The spread of fake news is not only damaging to individuals but also undermines the democratic process by creating confusion and distrust among voters. Misinformation can deter citizens from participating in elections and distort public perception of candidates and their intentions.

As the election approaches, Akpata has called on the people of Edo to come together and vote for the Labour Party tomorrow, September 21, 2024. “Your vote is your power,” he stated, encouraging citizens to engage actively in shaping the future of their community.

In this era of rapid information sharing, the public must verify claims before believing or sharing them. Spreading false information is an attack on democracy and should be condemned by all. As the stakes rise, Akpata’s prompt response serves as a reminder of the need for integrity in political discourse and the vital role of informed voters in shaping their future.
