47 suspected internet fraudsters have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Ekpoma, Edo State, according to a statement released on Monday via X.
The commission’s Benin Zonal Directorate conducted the arrests at various locations throughout the town on Saturday, February 15, 2025, citing “credible intelligence that linked them to fraudulent internet activities.”
The anti-graft agency revealed that a number of items, including 14 exotic cars, laptops, and mobile phones, were found among the suspects, and that they had given “useful statements” and would face charges at the end of the investigations.
The statement said, “Operatives of the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Saturday, February 15, 2025, arrested 47 suspected internet fraudsters at different locations in Ekpoma, Edo State.”
“The suspects were arrested based on credible intelligence that linked them to fraudulent internet activities.”
“Items recovered from them include 14 exotic cars, laptops and phones.”
“They have made useful statements and would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”
