The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Edo State has called on President Bola Tinubu to step in and address the state’s crisis.
The party urged Tinubu to urge the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership to stop chaos after the alleged flagrant disrespect for the law. At a news conference in Benin City on Saturday, Anthony Aziegbemi, the party’s state caretaker committee chairman, made an appeal after Tom Obaseki, the chairman of the Oredo Local Government, was impeached on Friday.
Twelve imposters, posing as council members, broke into the council secretariat in Benin City and carried out the impeachment, according to Aziegbemi. He then requested that Tinubu respond to what he called a flagrant disrespect for the rule of law.
Describing the impeachments by the APC-led government as a “coup d’état,” Aziegbemi stated that the development is worrisome.
“We call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene because the development is becoming worrisome. It is a coup by the APC-led government in Edo State against democracy.
“The Edo State government must be called to order to avoid a state of anarchy following the outright disregard for the rule of law.”
“The latest impeachment was at the Oredo Local Government, where 12 imposters posing as councillors invaded the council and claimed to have impeached the council chairman, Tom Obaseki,” he alleged.
