Dennis Idahosa, the deputy governor of Edo State, has urged all All Progressives Congress members and state citizens to put aside their differences and work together to advance the party and the state.
He made the call during a New Year’s celebration for the party’s Edo South leaders that was hosted on Saturday in the Government House’s New Festival Hall in Benin City, Edo State. Idahosa thanked all party members for helping the party win the state’s September 21, 2024, gubernatorial election and asked them to unify more than ever so that Governor Monday Okpebholo could advance the state.
“The reason for this meeting is to bring all the political actors together in oneness and unity. God has been faithful to the APC in 2024 as the party unseated the then-incumbent party in the state winning the Governorship election. God answered our prayers and we all have to be united going forward in 2025.
“There are pockets of division across the state but it is high time we did away with the grievances and come together in unison to move the party and State forward. Edo South should take the lead in terms of uniting the party”, Idahosa said.
Although the deputy governor recognized that there were some areas of party dispute, he urged all disgruntled members to unite in support of the Okpebholo-led government so that the Edo people may benefit from democracy.
Idahosa urged members to allow the conference to terminate all party factions because the party requires unity in order to expand and advance the state.
He said, “This is the time to come together and be united in all we do across the state, especially in the seven Local government areas in Edo South. I appeal to us all to be united to build a strong party and a strong State.
“We have to be united to promote this administration led by Senator Monday Okpebholo, ensuring that he delivers on his electioneering promises to the people.”
An ex. deputy governor of the state and leader of the party in Edo South, Lucky Imasuen, urged all party supporters to embrace unity as it is needed to develop the State to the benefit of all Edo people.
“Let’s not be part of those who will want to cause confusion in the party but rather come together and work with one mind to develop the party and the State so that Edo people will benefit from the leadership style of Senator Monday Okpebholo,” he said.
In his remarks, former governorship candidate of the party, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, said the party no longer has room for those causing disunity rather only those ready to support the administration to ensure it succeeds
“We thank all party members for their support and collaboration in ensuring APC is in power in Edo State. We have been united in all we do as a party. That was why we were able to defeat the incumbent party but I urge us all to ensure the unity continues to ensure our party performs for Edo people.
“We should stop the lies, backbiting, disunity and all other negative things that will draw the party back. If we are truly united, the administration of Senator Monday Okpebholo will surely deliver good and practical governance for the Edo people,” he said.
