In a statement released by the APC’s state publicity secretary, Barr. Peter Uwadiae Igbinigie, the party described the defection as a significant development and said that the lawmaker’s decision to join the APC reflected growing support for the current administration’s policies and direction.
The announcement of Hon. Nicholas Asonsere’s official defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which brings the number of APC members in the House to 15, was made during a gathering of APC members in Benin City on Tuesday.
“Hon. Asonsere has played a key role in the PDP, and we welcome his decision to be part of the APC,” Tenebe said. “His move is especially important because of his association with senior PDP figures like the deputy governorship candidate, Barr. Osarodion Ogie, and campaign director general, Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen.”
Tenebe pointed out that interest in the APC has grown as a result of recent events in the state. He described the government as concentrating on infrastructure and people-centered policies, and he attributed the defections from the opposition to the performance of Governor Okpebholo’s administration.
He also underlined that politics should be for the development of the group as a whole and that the APC is still available to anyone who wants to join.
“The olive branch extended by our governor is real,” Tenebe said. “We believe that progress in Edo State depends on working together, regardless of party differences.”
Tenebe promised that Hon. Asonsere would have the full backing of the party and that the APC would create an atmosphere that would allow his political objectives to flourish.
In his succinct words, Hon. Asonsere expressed gratitude to the APC members and leadership for the cordial welcome. He claimed that his choice was motivated by his faith in the current administration’s ability and vision to advance Edo State.
