The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that there will be a scheduled maintenance exercise on a 60MVA 132/33kV power transformer at the 132/33kV Ondo Transmission Substation on January 14, 2025, from 11:30 am to 4:00 pm.
This maintenance will temporarily stop the supply of electricity to customers fed from the Ondo and Okitipupa 33kV feeders. TCN apologized for any inconvenience caused to electricity customers in the affected areas.
In order for TCN’s maintenance engineers to work on the transformer bay and related feeders, the planned repair is required. Customers served by the Ondo and Okitipupa 33kV feeders would thus not be able to get energy from the Benin Energy Distribution Company (BEDC) at this time.
TCN apologized for any disruption that the impacted areas’ electricity consumers may have as a result of this work. On January 13, 2025, General Manager of Public Affairs Ndidi Mbah made the news.
He mentioned in the statement that; “Planned Maintenance Announcement. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) notifies the public of a scheduled maintenance on a 60MVA 132/33kV power transformer in its 132/33kV Ondo Transmission Substation on January 14, 2025. The maintenance will take place from 11:30 am to 4:00 pm.”
“The exercise is necessary to enable maintenance engineers to work on the transformer bay and the associated feeders. Consequently, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) will not be able to supply electricity to customers fed from the Ondo and Okitipupa 33kv feeders. We regret any inconvenience this may cause to electricity customers in the affected areas. Signed by Ndidi Mbah GM, Public Affairs 13/1/25”
TCN Responds to Report of First National Grid Collapse; The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has denied the nationwide grid failure. In a statement released on Saturday, January 11th, TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah explained that the national grid remained stable and operational throughout the day and attributed the power outages that occurred in certain parts of the country on Saturday to line tripping.
Mbah claimed that the Osogbo-Ihovbor and Benin-Omotosho transmission lines tripped, causing a significant disruption in the power supply to the Lagos axis. Many Nigerians throughout the states were concerned about a possible national system breakdown following a significant power outage on Saturday afternoon.
