During the governor’s and APC leaders’ visit to Oba Palace on Thursday in Benin City, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, and Oba of Benin prayed for Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo.
He was accompanied by a top palace chief, Frank Irabor, Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council, and State Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa.
According to His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, the ruler of Benin, his forefathers brought Governor Monday Okpebholo to Edo State in order to restore its former splendor.
Following his triumph in the Edo governorship election tribunal in Abuja, Governor Okpebholo paid a solidarity visit to Oba Ewuare II’s palace in Benin on Thursday.
The traditional ruler addressed the Governor as a true traditional son of the land and called on his ancestors to “bless him and members of his household for not allowing the machinations of evil doers to destroy the state.”
In an uncommon gesture, the king knelt in gratitude, hoisted Okpebholo up, and said that the state would see more growth under Governor Okpebholo’s leadership.
Oba Ewuare who spoke in Edo Language, said, “It shall be well with you, your wife, and children. Your journey to Edo, our ancestors approved it.”
“Our ancestors brought you to restore the lost glory of Edo State, which evil doers wanted. We have been praying and we will continue to pray for you, not to allow evil forces to destroy Edo.”
In response, Okpebholo expressed gratitude to the Oba for his love and support of him and the government. At the tribunal, he referred to his election triumph as the “historic and sweetest judgement ever” in history. The three justices on the court reached a unanimous decision.
“This it the first time we have seen a judgement where all the judges agreed that Monday Okpebholo won the election,” the governor stated.
