The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has received appreciation from the Action Alliance’s (AA) National Working Committee (NWC).
It rejected a plea filed by some Edo State party members contesting the election of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
National Chairman Kenneth Udeze released a statement from the NWC sharing this information. He congratulated the governor of Edo on his victory before the tribunal.
Udeze emphasized that no petition challenging Okpebholo’s victory was submitted by the AA or its candidate in the most recent Edo election.
He said that the petitioner was unknown to the AA. This person could not have acted for the party. Udeze said, “At no time did Action Alliance or its Governorship candidate in Edo State file any petition challenging the outcome of the election. The party is really taken aback by the report in the media.”
He stated that the tribunal’s decision demonstrates the power of the legal system. It shows, “the judiciary remains the true conscience of the society and does not tolerate frivolity in the name of politics.”
Yakubu Mahmoud, the head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was also commended by Udeze.
He said the verdict is “a clear testament of improvement in the electoral process and a vindication of Prof. Mahmoud as an unbiased umpire.”
