In keeping with her mission to support individuals with disabilities, especially women and children, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, Coordinator, Office of the Edo First Lady, recently brought gifts to Barrister Benedicta Francis, a visually impaired mother who recently gave birth to a baby girl at a private medical facility in Benin City.

According to her biological mother, Mrs. Monica Adams, Barrister Francis lost her sight ten years ago after a brief illness.

Hajia Nimata Ikhilor, the wife of the Secretary to the State Government, represented Mrs. Anani at the celebration. She gave the mother and child their gifts and expressed the First Lady’s sincere congratulations.

“I congratulate you for this bundle of joy bestowed upon you by God. I pray that you and your family are empowered to care for the baby in accordance with the Lord’s guidance, and the baby becomes a continual source of joy and consolation for your entire family”.

Mrs. Monica Adams, the mother of Barrister Francis, recounted some challenges during delivery: “When we arrived at the hospital, the doctor said the baby had stopped breathing in the womb. They rushed her to the theater for a caesarean section, and by the grace of God, mother and the baby are now in good health.”

Expressing her gratitude, Mrs. Adams added, “Thank you her Excellency, for the love and care, and the beautiful gift items. May God Almighty continue to keep and preserve you and our Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo. May his administration remain peaceful and fruitful.”

A major turning point in the state’s transition to a more compassionate and inclusive society, the visit highlights the Edo State Government’s commitment to reorienting government and empowering women and people with disabilities.
