Major contracts, including the rehabilitation of highways in Ovia North East, Esan North East, and Oredo Local Government Areas, as well as the refurbishment of public schools, have been approved by the Edo State Executive Council.

This was revealed by Hon. Paul Ohonbamu, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, during a press briefing following the weekly State Executive Council meeting, which was chaired by Governor Monday Okpebholo. Before the present executive council was sworn in, he said, the council approved contracts that had previously been given out by the governor and the state’s tenders board.

According to Hon. Ohonbamu, the council had examined the procurement law and the bids board certification of the impacted contracts, which is why ratification was required.

Among the approved purchases were four Hilux vans and four Prado Jeeps for the Edo State Oil and Gas Development Commission.

The council also authorized the termination of eleven road contracts and the reconstruction of roads in the Ovia North East, Esan North East, and Oredo Local Government Areas. This choice attempts to rescope the projects for timely completion, avoid overlapping, and guarantee consistency of standards.

In order to ascertain the amount of work that contractors have finished and guarantee that payments are made appropriately, the council also required an evaluation of the impacted contracts. The council gave its approval to renovate deteriorating public schools as part of the state government’s efforts to enhance education.

This decision addresses the inadequate condition of the school infrastructure that the government inherited and is in line with its goal of creating a favorable learning environment.

In order to guarantee that projects fulfill the essential requirements and are finished without needless delays, the council also authorized modifications to a few current contracts. The government also agreed to pay 10 contractors from the previous administration according to the quality of work they have done in order to prevent delays in project implementation.

Ohonbamu claims that this method, called quantum merit, guarantees that contractors receive just compensation for their labor without using harsh penalties. He emphasized Governor Okpebholo’s continued dedication to justice and respect for due process in government.

“In four months, the governor has been able to establish a solid foundation for sustainable infrastructure and human capital development in Edo State,” Ohonbamu added
