Mr. John Mayaki, the former chief press secretary to former Governor Godwin Obaseki, has criticized Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, the chairman of the Edo Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for what he called his hypocrisy in criticizing Governor Monday Okpebholo’s security measures.
Mayaki said:“How can a man who was kidnapped in broad daylight under Obaseki’s government now pontificate on insecurity? If the PDP government couldn’t even protect its own party chairman, what moral right does Aziegbemi have to lecture anyone on security?”
He characterized Aziegbemi’s remarks as a last-ditch effort to divert attention away from the PDP’s disastrous governance failure, reminding the Edo people that Obaseki fostered insecurity while his government showed little concern for the suffering of its constituents.
Mayaki pointed out that the PDP government disregarded security for eight years, making Edo State a safe haven for criminals, cultists, and kidnappers.
His words: “Under Obaseki administration, farmers raised alarms over herdsmen attacks, communities pleaded for protection, but Obaseki and his team looked the other way. Rather than addressing these crises, the PDP government focused on political infighting and issuing empty statements.”
“Now, barely months into a new administration, the same PDP that left Edo’s security infrastructure in ruins wants to rewrite history and blame the APC. Governance is not about press conferences and political grandstanding – it requires actual work, something the PDP never did in eight years.”
Mayaki emphasized The new government is actively working with security services to repair the flawed security system that Okpebholo inherited. He bemoaned the PDP’s frantic attempt to gain prominence through unfounded charges rather than endorsing initiatives to restore stability.
“Before offering unsolicited advice, Aziegbemi and the PDP should first apologize to Edo people for their incompetence.”
“The PDP lacks the credibility to speak on governance, having left Edo State in a far worse condition than they met it. But Edo people are wiser now, and no amount of propaganda will erase the memory of their misrule,” Mayaki said.
