The creation of military formations in Uromi’s hotspots has been demanded by Hon. Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie, the member of the House of Representatives for Edo State’s Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency.
The Esan North-East Local Government Area’s administrative center is located at Uromi. He issued this appeal in an effort to stop criminal elements from attacking, abducting, and killing innocent residents of the constituency. When he introduced a motion of urgent significance on the House floor on Tuesday, Hon. Okojie brought up the matter.
He expressed sadness at the growing level of insecurity in his constituency and Edo State overall, pointing out that people now live in constant terror. He claimed that their general sense of safety has been greatly impacted by the worsening security situation.
The lawmaker emphasized the urgency of addressing security concerns at both the state and national levels.
In remembrance of those killed by the escalating insecurity, he asked the House to observe a minute of silence. In order to stop criminal activity, he also urged the federal government to order the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Department of State Services (DSS), and other pertinent agencies to carry out a thorough investigation.
He also emphasized that in order to effectively address insecurity in the state and the Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency, security agencies and stakeholders must work together more closely.
Hon. Okojie also encouraged the Federal Government to build a military base in Uromi through the Defense Headquarters. He maintained that increased military presence will boost reaction capability and security in the area.
The House also acknowledged the proactive security measures taken by the Edo State Governor.
Hon. Okojie commended Governor Monday Okpebholo’s strategic approach in strengthening security.
He highlighted the governor’s commitment to community policing, collaboration with federal security agencies, and the deployment of advanced surveillance technology to combat crime.
“Security remains the bedrock of development. ”
The governor of Edo State should be commended and supported nationally for his recent efforts to restructure the state’s security system. In addition to restoring residents’ trust, these efforts serve as a template for other governments to adopt, said Hon. Okojie.
Additionally, he demanded more federal assistance to bolster Edo State’s initiatives, specifically in the form of enhanced intelligence-sharing protocols and additional funds for security agencies. Members of the House overwhelmingly supported the measure after discussions.
The significance of state-led security reforms in tackling Nigeria’s wider security issues was recognized by lawmakers. This outcome strengthens the group effort to guarantee a safer Nigeria and is a major stride in legislative advocacy for improved security governance.
