In order to increase the affordability and accessibility of postsecondary education for students enrolled in state-owned institutions, the Edo State Government announced a partnership with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
The cooperation would enable Edo students to enroll in universities and other higher institutions without the immediate pressure of paying tuition fees, said Commissioner for Education Dr. Pally Iyamu, who announced the proposal on Monday.
He added that in order to assist with living expenses while they were in school, students would also get a monthly stipend.
“This is to let Edo people know that the state government has partnered with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund to make tertiary education accessible and affordable for its citizens in state-owned institutions,” Iyamu said.
“I am calling on all students in the state’s tertiary institutions to take advantage of this great initiative by the government.”
Iyamu emphasised the state government’s commitment to reducing the financial burden on parents, many of whom struggle to pay tuition fees.
“This partnership will serve as a major relief to parents who previously had to pay hundreds of thousands of naira for their children’s education,” he noted.
The commissioner also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Monday Okpebholo for supporting laws that guarantee students can pursue higher education regardless of their financial situation. Reducing student dropout rates and removing financial obstacles that keep many people from pursuing higher education are the goals of the program.
The state government has planned a two-day sensitization event for March 11 and 12, which would include all three senatorial districts, in order to guarantee broad knowledge.
On March 11, Edo State Polytechnic in Usen will host Edo South. On March 12, Edo North’s program will be held at Edo University in Iyamho, while Edo Central’s session will be held at the AAU Student Conference Centre in Ekpoma. Students will receive comprehensive information from the program regarding the loan scheme’s eligibility, application proced
ures, and advantages.
