The “Plant, Nurture, Eat—Edo Girls’ Farm Project” was unveiled by the Edo State Office of the Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals, led by Sally Suleiman, in honor of International Women’s Day.
According to a statement issued on Saturday, the project aims to teach young girls practical agricultural skills while instilling values of patience, responsibility, and self-sufficiency. It also contributes to environmental sustainability and food security.
She said, “In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Edo State Office of the Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals has unveiled the ‘Plant, Nurture, Eat – Edo Girls’ Farm Project.”
“This project aligns with Governor Monday Okpehbolo’s SHINE (Security, Health, Infrastructure, Nutrition, and Education) Agenda, which prioritises agriculture as a key driver of economic transformation.”
“By engaging young girls in hands-on farming, the initiative not only fosters youth empowerment but also supports key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Quality Education (SDG 4), and Gender Equality (SDG 5).”
She emphasized that the project empowers the upcoming generation of female agribusiness leaders and demonstrates the state’s dedication to sustainable farming methods.
According to Suleiman, Edo State hopes to create a more food-secure future with this program while making sure that young females gain the abilities and information required to succeed in the agricultural industry.
