On Thursday, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo said that Edo State University, Iyamho, would once again receive a monthly subvention of N100 million.

According to Governor Okpebholo, the previous administration of Mr. Godwin Obaseki had already stopped providing the monthly subvention. During the institution’s sixth convocation event, held in Adams Oshiomhole’s rural house in the state’s Etsako West Local Government Area, Okpebholo made this revelation.

The governor also revealed that the government was open to raising the subvention in the future, as expressed by Washington Osifo, Commissioner for Energy and Water Resources. He claims that the previous Godwin Obaseki administration originally stopped providing the N100 million monthly subvention.

The monthly subvention given to Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma, by the Godwin Obaseki administration was raised from N40 million to N500 million by the Monday Okpebholo government in December 2024.

However, he commended the institution’s administration for upholding the university’s mission and the parents for having faith in the instructors’ ability to guide their children academically. He gave the school his word that the state government will work to improve Edo State residents’ access to education.

Earlier, 570 students from the institution’s various specialties graduated, according to Prof. Dawood Egbefo, the acting vice chancellor. 14 First-Class Honours, 145 Upper Division Second-Class Honours, 190 Lower Division Second-Class Honours, 35 Third-Class Honours, and 140 Postgraduates, including 20 PhD winners, were among the graduates, according to Egbefo’s breakdown.

He said out of the graduates, 46 are Medical and Surgery graduates.

While congratulating the graduates, he urged them to carry forward the values of excellence, integrity, and innovation that Edo University Iyamho has instilled in them.

“This is not the end of your journey but the beginning of a new chapter filled with endless possibilities. Embrace challenges with confidence.

“Continue to learn and grow, and above all, remain committed to making a positive impact in the world.

“The future belongs to those who dare to dream, innovate, and work tirelessly to achieve their goals,” he said.
