This was revealed on Monday by Prof. Dawood Egbefo, the acting vice chancellor of Edo University Iyamho, at a press conference to commemorate the institution’s sixth convocation event, which is set for February 27, 2025, and will see the graduation of 430 students.
He stated that of this total, 20 would earn the esteemed Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in diverse subjects, 140 would receive various degrees and postgraduate degrees, and 14 would graduate with first-class degrees. According to him, the purpose of installing broadband internet connections throughout campuses was to enable quick data transfer for faculty, staff, and students.
According to him, “Provision of the internet is a crucial part of the structure of an institution of higher learning across the world”.
Prof. Egbefo added that the government’s goal of establishing the university as a center of excellence is being upheld and that the university’s primary goal of offering top-notch education is to reduce educational tourism in the state and Nigeria.
He pointed out that despite unanticipated difficulties like the COVID-19 pandemic, the university has continuously maintained a steady academic calendar since its founding, guaranteeing that students graduate on time.Prof. Egbefo added that the school has achieved academic achievement, with nursing students receiving a perfect score on professional exams and law school students at the 500 level having their schedules finalized in accordance with the rules to guarantee timely graduation.
He added that the university’s Master of Science in Accounting and Master of Science in Public Administration programs, among others, have been accredited.
According to the Acting VC, 140 graduates will get various postgraduate degrees, including 20 others with the prestigious Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in diverse subjects, while 430 students will graduate at its sixth convocation, 14 of whom will obtain first-class degrees. However, he stated that two worthy Nigerians who had distinguished themselves in their service to Edo and Nigeria would receive honorary degrees from the university.
They are Vincent Agenmomen, the chairman of the Nigerian Freedom Group, and Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo and senator for Edo North. They said their honors are a tribute to their distinguished professions and contributions to the advancement of our beloved nation.
Thanking the state government for keeping fate on the University’s management and allowing it to pilot the affairs of the university, the acting VC assured the public that the University operates zero tolerance for vices, as a result of the recent increase of students admission of 1,528 for the 2024/2025 academic session.
