Bendel Insurance Football Club defeated Assemblies of God FC of Ekpoma 3-0 on Sunday night at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium to win the 2025 Edo FA Cup.
Since 2019, the 2023 Federation Cup winners have dominated the Edo FA Cup.
Vincent Akpikpi gave Insurance the lead in the 30th minute of this year’s Edo FA Cup finals, and AG FC of Ekpoma, an amateur team, battled hard to stop Insurance from scoring.
Coach Greg Ikhenoba made a double substitution at the beginning of the second half, starting his best central defenders, Dennis Chigozie and Ugwu Emmanuel, with Abel James and Promise.
Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi skillfully converted a penalty kick to give Insurance a two-goal lead in the 61st minute of play, but the Benin Arsenals continued to put additional pressure on the Assemblies Boys.
An AG FC defender dragged Austin Ogunye down in their box, resulting in a penalty kick.Following a stunning delivery in the 73rd minute, Osahon Osobo scored his second goal for Insurance in three games by dribbling past two opponents after Meyinwa’s through pass.
The Benin Arsenals defeated the arrogant BJ Foundation FC 2-0 on Saturday night at the same Samuel Ogbemudia stadium after traveling from Maiduguri to reach the finals against the Assemblies of God lads, who crushed FC Delight 2-0 in the earlier semifinal encounter.
In the meantime, Edo Queens defeated Fortress Ladies 3-0 to win the Edo FA Cup again.
