During the training’s closing ceremony on Sunday, Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, the commissioner of police in charge of the command, revealed that 160 personnel had received training to improve their operational capabilities in combating crime in the state.
According to a statement provided to journalists in Benin City on behalf of the command, Moses Yamu, the public relations officer, said the training was a component of the commissioner’s commitment to ridding the state of crime.
The training covered topics such as VIP escort, ambush and counter-ambush, musketry, combat craft, tactical retrogression movement, search and rescue, and more.
The statement read in part: “In her quest to rid the state of crime, the Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, directed the immediate retraining of personnel to enhance their operational capabilities in tackling the challenges ahead.
“A total of one hundred and sixty personnel have so far been retrained in two batches, covering the following areas: VIP escort, ambush and counter-ambush, musketry, combat craft, tactical retrogression movement, search and rescue, among others.”
However, the commissioner tasked the staff with maintaining high professional standards, free from harassment, intimidation, and extortion, and being brave and alert in reacting quickly to security breaches.
Additionally, she informed all natives and citizens of the state that the command was prepared to provide better, more effective, and more efficient service while she was in charge.
