The arrest of Kelvin Izekor for the Saturday murder of his 38-year-old wife, Success Izekor, was confirmed by the Edo State Police Command on Sunday.
The deceased, who had machete wounds on her head, was seen being taken from her flat into the police Hilux truck by local residents and police in a widely shared video.
According to reports, the couple was just married, and locals were baffled as to what might have transpired between them that resulted in Success’s murder. The two recently got married, and the incident was unexpected, according to a resident who asked to remain anonymous.
According to her, it was inconceivable that the deceased had to endure such a destiny.
The resident said, “I can’t believe what I saw. Imagine being killed by your husband. They are a new couple and nobody would have expected the woman to suffer that fate.”
The spouse was on the verge of being killed by a crowd when the police arrived, appeased them, and took the suspect into custody, according to Moses Yamu, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, who verified the incident in a statement on Sunday.
Yamu said, “On Saturday 22, 2025, at about 10 pm, information was received that one Kelvin Izekor of No. 50 Upper Mission extension, Benin-City has killed his wife named Success Izekor, aged 38 years, and was about to be lynched by a mob.”
“Operatives of the Aduwawa Police Division swiftly responded to the report and met the lifeless body of the woman lying in the pool of her own blood with deep cuts on her head.”
“It took serious efforts by the police operatives to pacify the mob, rescue, and take the suspect into custody for investigation. The victim was removed and rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead.”
Yamu said the state Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, decried the recent cases of spouses being violent against each other while assuring the public of diligent investigation into the death of the woman. He noted that whoever was found culpable would be dealt with according to the law.
