The Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday acknowledged that a 10-member caretaker committee, chaired by Tony Aziegbemi, is the genuine leadership of its Edo State chapter.
This was stated in a release released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Debo Ologunagba.
The statement read in part: “The attention of the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has been drawn to the activities of certain individuals parading themselves as the executives of the Edo State chapter of the PDP.”
“They are illegally claiming offices, issuing unauthorised directives, attempting to convene meetings, and engaging in actions detrimental to the stability of our party in Edo State.”
“The PDP states categorically that the Edo State chapter is currently being run by a 10-member caretaker committee, with Dr Tony Aziegbemi as Chairman and Hon Henry Duke Tenebe as Secretary.”
It furthermore aired that “the caretaker committee was duly appointed by the National Working Committee pursuant to Section 29 (2)(b) of the PDP Constitution to oversee the affairs of the Edo State chapter following the expiration of the previous state executive and pending the election of a new one.”
The statement states that Harrison Omagbon, Fidel Igenegbale, Chris Nehikhare, Tony Anenih Jr., and Bishop Anthony Okosun are members of the committee, which is chaired by Aziegbemi. Henry Tenebe (Secretary), Augustine Edosomwan, Adezat Ibrahim, and Segun Saiki are further members.
The party warned that “any individuals illegally presenting themselves as the PDP executive in Edo State will be regarded as impostors, as no new executive committee has been elected for the state chapter.”
Also, the party stressed that it “will not hesitate to take decisive disciplinary action against anyone acting in defiance of the clear provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).”
The PDP has urged all leaders, stakeholders, and supporters in Edo State to maintain unity and continue to work with the caretaker committee in the best interest of the party and the people.
