Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the governorship of Edo State on September 21, 2024, presented 1,004 documents on Friday to support his petition contesting the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Senator Monday Okpebholo’s declaration as the election winner.
The documents were admitted as exhibits by the tribunal presided over by Justice Wilfred Kpochi and included Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of results forms EC8A-E and Local Government Area summaries used in the election, as well as the CTCs of Form EC8Cs for the 18 Local Government Areas and CTCs of Form EC8Bs (Ward Result Sheets) covering the 192 Wards.
320 CTCs of Form EC8A (polling unit results), 318 CTCs of INEC Polling Unit Booklets with Form EC25D, and 58 CTCs of Form EC8A (IREV) were among the other submissions.
Mozia pointed out that the Tribunal Registrar and attorneys representing each party were present when the documents were verified. Even though the respondents’ attorneys, Kanu Agabi (SAN), Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), and V.C. Dewigwe, objected, the tribunal temporarily accepted all of the documents as exhibits.
According to Justice Kpochi, at the address stage, the respondents’ attorney would present their objections. Proceedings were postponed by the tribunal until Saturday, January 18, 2025, when the petitioners are anticipated to provide more supporting documentation.
