Through the Ministry of Mining and Energy, the Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing people with dependable electricity solutions in order to ensure energy efficiency and equity.
Under the Edo Mass Metering Program, the state received more than 1,000 new prepaid meters on Thursday, January 15, 2025. The project is a direct reaction to the long-standing problems caused by approximated billing, which has in the past left citizens with capricious and frequently exorbitant electricity bills. By giving citizens the means to precisely quantify their energy usage, the State Government is tackling the issues head-on with the introduction of prepaid meters.

Prepaid metering guarantees that residents only pay for the electricity they use, in contrast to anticipated billing, which is sometimes imprecise and opaque. This fosters accountability among electricity providers and eliminates disputes over billing discrepancies.
Residents can properly plan their costs, keep an eye on their energy consumption in real time, and steer clear of the annoyances that come with overbilling thanks to the prepaid meter. The effort has been effectively and efficiently driven by the Edo State Government’s cooperation with important stakeholders, such as New Hampshire Capital.
By obtaining investor-backed funding for the prepaid meters, the state guarantees that its treasury won’t be burdened financially while providing its inhabitants with real benefits. Prepaid meters were introduced as a component of a larger plan to update Edo State’s electricity infrastructure. The state government is establishing the groundwork for a more sustainable and fair energy landscape in conjunction with solar mini-grid initiatives, improved regulatory frameworks, and collaborations with energy investors.
The state government’s dedication to raising the standard of living for its people is demonstrated by the metering project. By substituting precise, user-controlled technologies for capricious billing procedures, the Edo State Government is empowering citizens, cutting down on energy waste, and promoting a more open and effective energy industry.
As it continues on its path to energy independence and economic development, the Edo State Government is steadfast in its resolve to provide its people with contemporary, equitable, and sustainable energy solutions.
