Sen. Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, has once again reaffirmed his commitment to the development of sports in the state, paving the way for young people to become more productive and develop their talents.
He has also unveiled the technical and management team and new players for the Edo Queens Football Club and Bendel Insurance Football Clubs, which will help the state grow.
At the unveiling event on Tuesday, January 14, 2024, at the Festival Hall of Government House in Benin City, Okpebholo, acting on behalf of the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, made this announcement.
According to Idahosa: “It is with great pleasure I welcome you to this epoch-making event. Today’s unveiling of the management and players of Bendel Insurance FC and Edo Queens underscores the importance this administration places on sport as a verifiable vehicle for cohesion and progress.”
“The appointment of the new management team and extra players are testaments of government commitment to revitalize a and reposition Bendel Insurance and Edo Queens FC for efficient service delivery”.
“Since the inauguration of the present administration, we have continued to prioritize the welfare of sports men and women, giving them the necessary encouragement to spur them to attaining greater heights in the sports endeavours”.
Idahosa also said: ” let me place on record the renewed commitment of this present administration to support Edo State Commission’s vision of grooming talents, especially youths in channeling their energy as envisioned by the founding fathers”.
Idahosa who sued for synergy and team spirit among the entire management structure of the Bendel Insurance and Edo Queens Football Clubs, noted it will position the clubs on the path of victory and sustainable development.
Idahosa said: “The new coach, the technical directors, and the team management must work together to improve on the performance of Bendel Insurance FC and advance the club beyond the Premier League tournament. The new players must shun indiscipline, hooliganism and embrace teamwork to place them ahead in the league.”
Stressing further, Idahosa said: “It is on this record that the superlative performance of Edo Queens FC as the defending champions of the Women Football League has restored the position of Edo State as the home of sport in Nigeria. The state governor is proud and elated over the performance of Edo Queens in Nigeria’s female football tournament and in continental engagements”.
Idahosa added: “It is my honor and privilege to unveil the new management and players of Bendel Insurance FC and Edo Queens FC for more victories and success.”
