With exciting games across the country, the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership’s eagerly awaited 2024/2025 season is scheduled to begin.
The 2024–2025 season is especially important since clubs are starting to compete for a spot in the 2026 Inaugural Women’s World Club Cup. The NWFL Premiership winner this season will vie for a spot in the inaugural global club football showcase for women’s clubs by competing in the WAFU-B regional qualifiers and earning a ticket to the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
Nkechi Obi, the NWFL Chairperson, has wished each and every club luck as their campaigns get underway. She also emphasized the value of fair play for all teams and vowed the board’s commitment to maintaining openness and fairness throughout the season.
“I wish all the teams success as they embark on this exciting journey, and may the best team emerge as champions,” Obi stated. “Our commitment to fairness and integrity will remain unwavering, and we will continue to provide a level playing field for every team,” she added.
The Sam Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City will host the most important game of the first week when the reigning champion Edo Queens play the Abia Angels.Confluence Queens will play Remo Stars Ladies at Anyimba City Stadium, while Ekiti Queens will host Heartland Queens at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti.
At Lafia City Stadium, the Nasarawa Amazons and Dannaz Ladies will square off. All games are set to begin at 4:00 PM. Bayelsa Queens will host Delta Queens at Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa at 4:00 PM, while newcomers Benue Queens will meet Robo Queens at Lafia City Stadium in the lone early kickoff at 1:00 PM.
After winning their first domestic title at the 2023/2024 Super Six finals in Yenagoa, the Edo Queens are the reigning champions. They went on to win the WAFU-B in Cote d’Ivoire and later finished fourth at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.
