The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Peter Osagie, has revealed that the Ministry is willing to work with Lagos Commodities and Futures Exchange members on food security as well as feed, fodder, and livestock initiatives in the State.
Dr. Osagie made this revelation while hosting the executive members of the Lagos Commodities and Futures Exchange at the Agriculture Hub in Benin City. He explained that the state government is currently investigating their request for the distribution of 1000 hectares of land for livestock, feed, and fodder projects in order to produce foreign exchange for the state. Therefore, he asked the team to make sure the ministry receives comprehensive documentation of the project’s profile and implementation plan.
In a previous statement, Nkechi Obi, Head of Operations at Lagos Commodities and Futures Exchange, said that her team was at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to ask for cooperation in order to ensure the success of their projects. She also mentioned that her team had asked for the allocation of 1000 hectares of land for livestock, feed, and fodder projects in order to generate foreign exchange for Edo State, which is one of the states with the most arable land.
Mrs. Obi added that the ministry is the main force behind their operations and that Edo State had been chosen as one of the states to participate in the project.
She reiterated that the key aspect of the project is the cultivation of feed crops and cultivation of fodder crops as well as the implementation of sustainable livestock production within Edo State, adding that the provision of land in Edo would ensure that the critical input for the project to kick off in the state is provided for, as it would create employment and capacity building for the people of the State.
