On Monday, January 6, 2025, in the hallowed chambers, Hon. Akosile Nicholas Imashimi, a councillor representing ward 9, moved the motion for the impeachment of Hon. Tajudeen Alade Suleman Esq., the chairman of the Akoko-Edo Local Government Council, and his deputy, Hon. Beatrice Abukare, on the grounds of financial misappropriation and executive recklessness.
He explained that the Akoko-Edo people were fed up with the lack of transparency in governance and the inadequate use of the region’s abundant mineral deposits for the benefit of the local populace. As a result, Rt. Hon. Jacob Tope, the deputy leader of the House, took over as the legislative arm’s leader.
Speaking to reporters at the ceremony, the acting chairman vowed to stick with Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo’s government and implement his five-point plan to create a new Edo.
While he established a committee to reclaim all government assets held by the former Council Chairman, Deputy, and Aides, he also disbanded all political appointments from the previous administration. Lawmakers who failed to show up for plenary were suspended for two months.
