Sen. Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, acknowledged his electoral victory in the September 2024 governorship election as a mandate from God to bring development and progress to Edo State during a recent address to worshippers at Streams of Joy International in Abuja.

The governor expressed gratitude to God for his electoral victory and emphasized that God had orchestrated his rise to power as a response to the prayers and yearnings of the Edo people for development and progress.

He also thanked the convener, New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD), and the church’s lead pastor, Pastor Jerry Eze, for their prayers and support during the elections and said he would be a good ambassador of the church by bringing Edo State to unprecedented development and economic growth.

According to him, “I have come to return all the glory to God for the electoral victory he gave to me during the last election. In 2023, I was here to testify as a senator. Today, I am here again to testify as a governor. When I wanted to join the race for the primaries, I came here and I told Pastor my intention. He prayed for me and asked me to go contest.”

“I did and although the journey was tough, I emerged victorious and today, I am the governor of Edo State. I see my becoming a governor as a divine mandate to serve and bring development to the people. And I am here today to assure you, my brethren, that I will not disappoint the God of NSPPD”, he said.

As he cautioned the worshippers to remain firm and dedicated in their religious practices, Okpebholo emphasized that power is a gift from God alone, who grants it to whoever he pleases for his own glory. He counseled that such power should be viewed as a chance to serve and accomplish God’s will and that, as a devoted and appreciative steward, he was dedicated to using the God-given mandate to improve the lives of the Edo people.

Senator Monday Okpebholo, who is often described as “a man of uncommon grace,” entered partisan politics in the early 2020s and made headlines when he miraculously defeated the incumbent senator, Edo Central Senatorial District, ending the PDP’s 24 years of dominance in the area on his first try.
