A group called the Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR) of 1979-1983 Association claims to have finalized plans to invest heavily in the agricultural sector in order to support President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to combat food insecurity and make foods available to Nigerians in 2025 and beyond.
This was revealed by the group’s president, Mr. Wilson Etinosa Ekhomogiazin, at the association’s 2024 meeting and award ceremony in Benin. He stated that investments in the agricultural sector would be made based on the communities’ comparative advantages, adding that doing so would lessen the effects of hunger in the nation and ensure that Nigerians had access to enough food.
Speaking further about the group’s goals to help young people and combat unemployment, Mr. Ekhomogiazin stated that the executive committee is organizing short-, medium-, and long-term programs and activities in accordance with the association’s goals.
According to Ekhomogiazin, the executive committee will establish a business support scheme in the near future, and it is anticipated that the committee will generate at least N1 million in seed money. In order to allow other members to take advantage of the program, he continued, members who want to borrow more than N200,000 will be able to do so interest-free for a maximum of six months and with a one-month moratorium.
He also added that besides the aforementioned plans for its members, their long term plan will see the association launching into real estate and that they are committed to seeing all plans come to reality soon.
The group’s president stated that the association was established to give back to the community that raised them and that they have also deemed it appropriate to honor some of the people who formerly resided there but are currently having an impact on society via their various endeavors.
