The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations’ Edo State chapter has urged the state’s governor, Monday Okpebholo, to lead with integrity and ensure prudent management of the state’s resources.
In a statement released by NIPR state chairman James-Wisdom Abhulimen, the NIPR urged citizens to remain steadfast and optimistic despite the current economic difficulties. He cautioned the state’s citizens to embrace hope and remain optimistic as they navigate the challenges of the new year.
Dr. Abhulimen emphasized the power of unity and determination in overcoming challenges, asserting, “Our collective strength can shape a brighter tomorrow for ourselves and future generations.”
The NIPR state chairman highlighted the importance of rejecting anti-democratic tendencies, social vices, and corrupt practices, noting their detrimental impact on the economy and national reputation. He called on citizens to actively contribute to the growth of Edo State and Nigeria in general through honesty, hard work, and dedication to community progress.
He said, “The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Edo State chapter urges the state governor, Monday Okpebholo, to lead with integrity and ensure the prudent management of the state resources.”
“The citizens also have a role in building the state and they must remain steadfast and optimistic despite the prevailing economic difficulties.”
Abhulimen stressed the need for large-scale infrastructural development to alleviate the people’s hardship and drive Edo State progress.
A functional public transportation system, extensive renovations of public schools and primary health centers throughout the state, the revival of pipe-borne water projects to increase access to clean water, and the upgrading of the state’s socioeconomic infrastructure and deteriorating roads, such as the Benin-Auchi Expressway, are among the specific areas that have been identified as needing immediate attention.
Others include encouraging grassroots growth and agricultural development for long-term economic viability by building a vast road network throughout the state.
He added, “I also recommend the monthly publication of the state’s income and expenditure reports to foster trust among citizens and set a benchmark for effective governance nationwide.”
“As the New Year unfolds, the NIPR encouraged Edo State residents to work collectively toward making the state a beacon of hope, integrity, and innovation. Together, we can build a society that thrives on inclusivity and progress.”
