In order to combat food insecurity and ensure that the state produces enough food, the Edo State government has set aside N70 billion for agriculture in its recently passed 2025 budget.
The budget, tagged “Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo,” according to Governor Monday Okpebholo, is aimed at revitalizing the economy of the state and delivering the fruits of democracy, with special attention on agricultural revolution, food production, and infrastructural development.
Okpebholo promised that his government is prepared to address the severe food scarcity that is now plaguing the nation. He pointed out that in order to meet the agricultural demands and ensure Edo State’s food security, the state’s 2025 budget was significantly increased.
The Speaker of the House of Assembly (EDHA), Blessing Agbebaku, said the need to adequately combat food insecurity and create food sufficiency in Edo State, necessitated the upward review of the budget from the initial N605b to N675b.
Agbebaku pledged the legislative Arm’s commitment to partnering with the Governor in ensuring that the state takes the lead in agricultural revolution and solve the current food challenges plaguing the country.
