After the Edo State House of Assembly approved the N675 billion 2025 Appropriations bill, known as the “Budget of Renewed Hope for A Rising Edo,” Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo signed it into law.
The assembly had already approved the governor’s N605 billion appropriation proposal, but on Monday, the lawmakers increased the budget by N70 billion, making it N675 billion, which was subsequently approved.
Sunday Fada (PDP Esan Central), the chairman of the Assembly Committee on Supplies, presented the report and explained that the committee increased the budgetary allocation from N605 billion to N675 billion in order to allow the governor to implement his five-point agenda in the state.
Assenting to the bill at the Government House, Benin City, on Wednesday, Governor Okphebholo said the budget would revive economy of the state and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
Okpebholo said: “I have just signed into law, a budget of 675,220,058,858.52 tagged a ‘Renewed Hope Budget for a Rising Edo’.
“It is hoped that the 2025 approved budget will revive the economy of Edo State and deliver the dividend of democracy to the good people of the state.”
Additionally, he stressed the administration’s commitment to starting a significant capital project in the upcoming fiscal year by stating that extra attention was taken during the budget preparation process to guarantee that a larger percentage was allowed for capital spending.
The governor also praised the Edo State House of Assembly’s Speaker, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, and other Assembly members for reviewing the budget so quickly.
Speaking earlier, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku said the budget was greatly enhanced from the initial amount of 605 billion to guarantee more funds are allocated to the agriculture sector. He was also presenting the law to the governor for accent.
