Kenneth Imansuangbon, a philanthropist and former Edo State Labour Party (LP) candidate for governor, stated last Tuesday that in order to honor and recognize the country, the federal government should focus more on humanitarian workers who provide aid and support to vulnerable Nigerians who have been displaced by war, disaster, or conflict.
He bemoaned the fact that some people with dubious and corrupt backgrounds are frequently acknowledged, undermining the efforts of those whose altruistic and selfless deeds have improved the lives of the oppressed.
The chairman and proprietor of Pacesetters Group of Schools in Abuja, Imansuangbon, also known as the “Riceman,” spoke at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Uhogua, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. His wife, Kate Imansuangbon, accompanied him on the visit and urged support for the camp where he donated food items and other consumables.
He said the gesture was to show his compassion for the inmates and the founder of the Home for the Needy, Pastor Solomon Folorunsho, who manages the facility.
Adding that the visit is not to solicit votes as most politicians do during election period.
Imansuangbon, who called on the youths and children not to lose hope but to focus on their education so that they can grow up to be men and women of honour whose impact would be felt in nation building, added: “If we have a country where things are done well, Pastor Folunrusho is due for national honour, and I am calling on President Bola Tinubu that people who are given national honours are those that deserve it like it is done in America.
“National honour shouldn’t be given to people with tainted or questionable character or dishonorable people. It should be for those that have impacted lives like Solomon.
“Nigerian must discover itself under President Tinubu to correct this. He has inspired development for the country so that people will know that when you help the poor you are developing and changing it.
While praising the governor for getting off to a quick start, he also urged the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, to assist the youngsters. Kate, Imansuangbon’s wife, also emphasized in her remarks that the purpose of their visit to the camp is to let the prisoners know that they are loved and that there are people out there who care about them.
She also mentioned that her husband started the annual visit and food and clothing donation to the inmates during the Christmas season as a way to show his compassion.
