The Edo State Waste Management Board, under the direction of Mr. Lucky Enehita-Inegbenehi, its Managing Director, has started a thorough garbage evacuation effort throughout the State’s main marketplaces in an effort to make Edo State one of the cleanest in Nigeria.
During a recent inspection trip of several markets in the Edo South Senatorial District, including Egor and Uwelu Spare Parts, Mr. Enehita-Inegbenehi made a commitment that was fulfilled by the operation, which included free logistics for waste removal.
Speaking to reporters at the evacuation location, Mr. Enehita-Inegbenehi reiterated his dedication to maintaining cleanliness throughout the state in line with the administration led by Governor Okpebholo. “This morning, we decided to come here to evacuate the waste in the market free of charge. His Excellency wants to make the State the cleanest in Nigeria. We have all the plans in place, and as time goes on, you will see it,” he said.
Mr. Enehita-Inegbenehi also revealed the introduction of a 24-hour evacuation programme set to begin in January, 2025. According to him, the initiative aims to carry out waste removal during the evenings, ensuring that markets remain clean and tidy when traders and customers arrive in the morning. He appealed to traders and residents to adopt a culture of cleanliness, emphasizing its importance in achieving the State Government administration’s goal.
In a response, Comrade Collins Osa, a trader at Uwelu Market, commended the efforts of the State Government and the Waste Management Board. “We appreciate and thank the amiable Governor for this wonderful programme. If everywhere is dirty, we cannot attract customers to do business with us, and it could lead to the spread of diseases. This initiative is a welcome development, and we, the traders, will support the State Government to achieve this goal,” he said.
The exercise, which saw waste piles being evacuated, has been hailed as a practical demonstration of the State Government’s commitment to environmental sustainability and public health. The initiative is expected to bolster the State Government administration’s efforts to make Edo State a model of cleanliness and efficiency in Nigeria.
