Sen. Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, has disclosed intentions for his administration to guarantee the revival of the multi-million Naira water fountain that has been abandoned in Benin City’s King Square.
Speaking to reporters following a tour of the facilities constructed by the administration of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Sen. Okpebholo disclosed the plans.
Thousands of fun-seekers used to frequent the Museum because of the Water Fountain, particularly during holidays. But it has been completely neglected for the past eight years.
The Comrade Oshiomhole administration’s beautification effort for Urban Renewal included this project. However, the Godwin Obaseki-led administration neglected it, allowing the multi-million Naira project to decay.
Governor Okpebholo said he embarked on the tour of the facility to see what could be done in order to put it back to use, for the benefit of Edo people.
“I am here to look at the state of this Water Fountain, built by the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s administration, but abandoned by the previous administration of Godwin Obaseki.
“I remember how beautiful this place was when Oshiomhole was the Governor of Edo State. My coming here is to see how to revive it. We want to clean up this place, so that people can come here for recreation or relaxation.
“This place has been abandoned for too long now, but my administration wants to revive it so that Edo people can come here with their families to have good times during weekdays, weekends and holidays,” Governor Okpebholo concluded.
