Three suspects have been arrested by the Edo State Police Command for their roles in the murders of two craftsmen in Benin, the state capital, who were thought to be armed robbers.
Happy Ohiowere, 25, Samson Odewole, 22, and Frank Abolo, 37, are the suspects who were taken into custody.
The three suspects have been charged with murder, according to Moses Yamu, the state police spokesperson who verified the occurrence.
Yamu said, “The command is aware of the incident where two young boys unfortunately met their unfortunate situation.
“The command commenced investigation in that regard and immediately arrested three suspects, while two other suspects are at large. Those arrested have since been charged to court for prosecution,” he stated.
According to information obtained, the event happened at Amagba Community in the State’s Oredo Local Government Area at the beginning of this month.
According to reports, Osamudiamen Ehigie and Nosa Aghimie were welders who were killed by a crowd in Benin after being mistaken for armed thieves.
Around 6 p.m. on the fateful day, they were reportedly returning from a job site in Amagba when they encountered the gunmen who had just committed a robbery nearby.
According to reports, the two were hotly pursued by the gunman, and in the pandemonium that followed, Ehigie and Aghimie fled inside a nearby house and took refuge.
The residents in the neighborhood who mistook two individuals for robbers apprehended them and beat them to death, our correspondent learned.
Consequently, a police preliminary investigation exonerated the two artisans from the said crime while the owner of the site they went to work on also affirmed their innocence.
To this end, police operatives arrested the three suspects alleged to have been directly involved in the lynching.
